ImNotObsessed.com did an interview with Mariel Haenn recently. If you don’t know this already, Mariel is responsible for Rihanna’s fierce look – she’s her stylist! Read below the interview:
“As is probably already obvious, I’m (not) obsessed with Rihanna’s style. I met up with the stylist behind her many looks, Mariel Haenn, and got to know what she’s doing with MasterCard and Saks Fifth Avenue to bring you that celeb-worthy style without the celeb price tags.
Mariel looked casually cute in a Nanette Lepore jacket, Christian Louboutin sky-high stilettos, Seven jeans and a crazy, in a good way, four-finger ring by Jessica Robinson. When she’s not styling Rihanna for red carpets and music videos (she recently did the “Run This Town” video shoot), she’s styling Ciara, Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, Kerry Washington, Rachel McAdams, Jeremy Piven and QTip. Mariel seems to have her finger on the hottest items this season, because she’s partnered with MasterCard and Saks Fifth Avenue Fall 2009 Want It! Collection comprised of statement pieces that you gotta have, to help everyone update their wardrobes.
With items like the Rocker Boot, the Cozy Knit and the Strong Shoulder, Mariel shows ways to make these trendy pieces your own. For instance, if you’d like to bring out your inner rockstar but aren’t quite ready to debut thigh-high leather boots, try the bootie with some studs. Here’s what Mariel had to say:
What was it like working on the “Run This Town” video shoot?
It was really great because everyone had creative input. We wanted to go for a kind of rebel, militia feel and Rihanna wanted to keep it sexy, at the same time, with the garter belt and hooded sweatshirt. It’s all about being edgy and pushing the envelope.
Do you do Rihanna’s everyday wardrobe?
Rihanna and I collaborate on projects and, if she sees something she likes, she’ll order one for herself and wear it.
Its like everyday is a photoshoot with her.
And I love that because it keeps me on my toes!
Who is your favorite designer?
I love Balmain because its wearable but still edgy. For myself, I like Helmut Lang and Alexander Wang.
Are you looking forward to seeing any collections for Fashion Week?
I don’t think I can make it to any shows because I’ll be prepping for the VMA’s and other things that Rihanna has coming up but I’m excited to see what Alexander Wang is bringing.
What is one item every woman should have for Fall?
The Forever Bag. This can mean different things to different women. To some, their Forever Bag may have studs and zippers or maybe its just a classic.
What are your favorite items from the Want It! Collection?
I love the mixed metal necklace and the cozy knit because they’re both really versatile. For men, I like the 3 piece suit and the WingTip Brogue shoes.
What’s something our readers probably don’t know about working with celebrities?
That they’re all very trusting. They put trust in me where their style is concerned, while still giving their input and feedback.”
