
Rihanna, with director Anthony Mandler, shot the music video for “Hate That I Love You” in Los Angeles on August 13, 2007.
The video features Rihanna and Ne-Yo singing in two different locations as if they are missing each other but at the end its shown that both of them were only star-crossed but were singing for their own lovers, not about each other.
The video was premiered on her official website on September 24, 2007. The video also debuted on TRL on October 1, 2007 for a First Look and debuted at number nine the next day for the first time. It had been on TRL for twelve days and has been number one twice. The video peaked at number two on its ninth day on BET’s 106 & Park, and was her most successful video on 106 & Park, until “Take a Bow” became her first song to reach the number one position.
