Rihanna has been video director Anthony Mandler's muse, as the two have collaborated on 17 videos together, spanning from “Unfaithful” in 2006 to “Diamonds.” He recently talked to Vanity Fair and was asked about RiRi. Read below:
Having worked with Rihanna on 17 videos, how would you say she’s evolved since “Unfaithful”?
She just had her 13th Number One single, and she’s still only 25.
Do you have a favorite Rihanna video?
Via Teen Vogue: When I enter Rihanna's hotel suite overlooking Sandy Lane Beach, her sprawling crew (including her mother, aunt, manager, and three personal photographers) is busy at work. Meanwhile, the Lanvin-clad superstar is tucked into a corner, mid–duck face. She's posing with her new M.A.C. Viva Glam lipstick while her bestie–cum–staff photographer, Melissa Forde, snaps pics. Images of the new shade have just mysteriously leaked into the blogosphere, sending her handlers into a dizzying panic. But not RiRi; she's as cool as a cucumber, even in 100 percent humidity.
As the new face of M.A.C. Viva Glam, the singer is following in the footsteps of Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj in an effort to support the M.A.C. AIDS Fund, which has raised a remarkable $300 million in the fight against HIV and AIDS. The cause, RiRi tells me as we cozy up on the couch, is close to her heart:
According to UNAIDS—a United Nations partnership that focuses on universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care, and support—approximately 2,300 young people become infected with HIV each day. Even scarier: Globally, HIV infection rates are twice as high in young women ages 15 to 24 as they are in young men.
Many will argue that Rihanna is an unlikely role model to spread the gospel of safe sex, what with her racy Instagram feed and explicit music videos (I mean, have you seen "Pour It Up"?). But with a whopping 125,887,954 followers at press time (me included!), the undisputed fact is: Girl's got our attention. And according to @badgalriri, she wants to use it for good.
Reflecting on her own teen years, the reformed tomboy admits she was a late bloomer in the dating game due to one unwavering barrier: a strict mom. (She says her flat chest and mosquito-bitten skin didn't help, either:
(When she tells me this, I hear her mother giggle from across the room.) As RiRi opens up about everything from her hard-to-imagine awkward phase to her mission to save lives one lipstick at a time, the most beautiful girl in the world gets, well, even more beautiful.
Rihanna's new Viva Glam MAC lipstick ad campaign is out now! The lipstick will be available in the United States on January 21st at maccosmetics.com.
All proceeds from Viva Glam lipstick purchases will be used to help people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.
Eminem and Rihanna tally a fourth week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with "The Monster," which fends off Pitbull and Ke$ha's "Timber" at No. 2, also for a fourth week. With her continued reign, Rihanna moves into sole possession of the third-most total weeks at No. 1 (51) in the chart's history.
Rihanna's 13th No. 1 and Eminem's fifth leader holds at the Hot 100's summit, posting a fourth week atop the Radio Songs airplay chart. It slips by 7% to 136 million in all-format audience impressions, according to Nielsen BDS. On Digital Songs, which it led for three weeks, "Monster" rebounds 3-2 with 433,000 downloads sold (up 124%), according to Nielsen SoundScan; all titles on the 50-position Digital Songs chart gain this week, as consumers redeemed digital gift cards after Christmas. (Total digital song sales rise by 98% from the previous week.) "Monster" falls to No. 2 after a week atop Streaming Songs (4.7 million U.S. streams, down 38%, according to BDS) and drops 1-2 after six weeks at No. 1 on the subscription services-based On-Demand Songs chart (1.6 million, down 25%).
As "Monster" marks four weeks atop the Hot 100, Rihanna collects her 51st career week at the summit, pushing her past Boyz II Men (50 weeks) for the third-most weeks spent at No. 1 in the chart's 55-year history. Mariah Carey leads with 79 total weeks at No. 1 (via 18 toppers), followed by the Beatles (59 frames from 20 No. 1s). Usher rounds out the top five with 47 weeks at No. 1, thanks to nine leaders.
"Monster" spends a ninth week at No. 1 on both the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Rap Songs charts. It leads the Rhythmic radio-based list for a fifth week and Pop Songs and Rap Airplay for a fourth week each.
