With a new hairstyle, Rihanna made her Middle East debut, bringing in 2010 in true style in what promised to be the ultimate New Year’s Eve celebration for Abu Dhabi. And indeed it was! Rihanna transformed the West Lawn of Abu Dhabi’s Emirates Palace, into a pulsing dance-floor of over 15,000 party-goers.

• After a 62% increase last week, Rihanna’s “Rated R” sales jumped from 81,548 copies to around 91,000 this week, which means Rihanna will be gold next week – the album is near 500,000 copies sold in the US (according to MTV)! More charts updates coming soon.

• Rihanna and her band have been rehearsing in Abu Dhabi since yesterday. Below you can see where she will perform tomorrow night. Have a great New Year’s Eve, RiRi!

Rihanna doesn’t have to change her wardrobe for the New Year’s gig in Abu Dhabi

A British tabloid report claiming that Rihanna will have to tone down her raunchy performances for her New Year’s Eve concert in Abu Dhabi is “totally inaccurate” according to organisers Flash.

In a statement, organisers Flash rubbished the claims, saying

‘‘the facts and figures recently reported around Rihanna’s Abu Dhabi concert are totally inaccurate. Rihanna is bringing an incredible new stage show to the capital and there’s no doubt the event will be fantastic; an ideal way to celebrate the beginning of a new decade.”

According to a few fans and singer K’naan, Rihanna is already in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. She’s there for her New Year’s Eve concert on Thursday. Hopefully we will see pictures soon.

The gallery has been updated with two HQs of Rihanna partying in Barbados on December 25. She spent Christmas Day at a party at the Kensington Oval cricket ground, near the capital Bridgetown.

But we can reveal she has been told to dress conservatively for her gig at the Emirates Palace. And, as she’s said to be making $500,000 for her performance, she’s likely to do exactly what shes told. Which means the white slashed latex body suit she wore at the American Music Awards not to mention her collection of  eye-popping bras will be mothballed. Her team are now said to be working frantically on new outfits which are respectful of local traditions. A source tells us:

Rihanna fans are snapping up tickets as anticipation builds for the singer’s showpiece New Year’s Eve event in Abu Dhabi.

Flash Entertainment, organisers of the concert, said tickets for the concert in Emirates Palace were fast selling out.

Not only will Rihanna be performing, but ticket holders will also be able to enjoy La Rumba aftershow party, the company said in a statement on Sunday.

“The response from the public has been fantastic since we announced Rihanna would be performing in Abu Dhabi and there is no doubt it’s going to be an unforgettable way to see in 2010 and the beginning of a new decade,” said John Lickrish, managing director of Flash Entertainment. “There are still tickets available but they are selling fast and we are expecting even greater demand this week heading into the event.”

Tickets are available at Marina Mall, Emirates Palace Abu Dhabi and Virgin Megastores outlets across the region.

As Rihanna fans anticipate the forthcoming release of her album “Rated R”, Flash Entertainment has announced tickets for her New Year’s Eve concert at Emirates Palace will go on sale this Tuesday (24 November).

Ticket prices start from AED395 (US$108) for the regular Coral package and range upwards according to preferred standing and seating areas.

For those looking for the full VIP treatment, Flash have put together a top level package that includes free drinks and canapés as well as access to a specially erected VIP platform, priced at AED 1,695.

After much anticipation over the announcement of ticket sales, Flash Entertainment urges concert goers to act early to avoid disappointment.

Tickets can be purchased online from 24th November at www.boxofficeme.com, www.timeouttickets.com and www.ticketingboxoffice.com. Tickets will also be available from all Virgin Megastore outlets to be announced at a later date.

Plans for pop diva Rihanna’s first concert in the Middle East were confirmed on Sunday by organisers Flash Entertainment. The company said the global pop sensation would play in Abu Dhabi as a headline act for a New Year’s Eve celebration concert.

Rihanna, who rose to fame with hits including Disturbia, Umbrella, and Don’t Stop the Music, will play on the West Lawn of Abu Dhabi’s Emirates Palace as organisers transform it into a dancefloor of more than 15,000 party-goers. At just 17 years old, Rihanna stormed onto the market in 2005 and now claims the most number one singles for any female solo artist this decade.

“With a superstar like Rihanna leading the countdown to 2010, this concert promises to be the hottest ticket in town on the biggest night of the year,” said John Lickrish, managing director of Flash. “We’re thrilled to host her regional debut and promise concert-goers a hugely entertaining, all-night New Year’s Eve party on a scale they’ve never seen before.”

Tickets for the New Years Eve event will go on sale soon, Flash added.

The R&B singer Rihanna will be the headline act for a New Year’s Eve concert in Abu Dhabi, it was confirmed yesterday.

Her possible appearance had prompted speculation for some time. The news will please thousands of fans who were left disappointed after the singer, 21, pulled out of a planned concert in Dubai on May 28, citing personal reasons.

Last year, the Latin pop diva Shakira performed at a lavish New Year’s Eve party at the Emirates Palace hotel in Abu Dhabi.

Details about this year’s concert and the location are expected to be released soon.
