Singer Rihanna fronts a new ad for Optus which pairs her with the telco’s pre-paid penguins in space.

The ad, created by M&C Saatchi, launches tonight. The Optus campaign follows a similar strategy which saw the company tie in with rock star Pink last year. It gives users of the Optus pre-paid service an opportunity to win tickets to Rihanna’s ‘Last Girl on Earth’ tour, which comes to coming to Australia next year. The ad was shot in LA by US-based Aussie director David Gaddie, with post production done in Sydney by Post Modern. The shoot saw Rihanna suspended on a series of wires.

We can gladly confirm that Rihanna will visit Australia as promised – in February and March 2011. This is a great news for all Australian fans who were almost flooding us with questions about the tour. At first it seemed that the LGOE tour would be over with end of the US leg, but due to a huge demand for the tour it has been extended to another continent. Here are the dates:

Friday February 25 –  Brisbane Entertainment Centre
Monday February 28 –  Newcastle Entertainment Centre
Friday March 4 –  Sydney, Acer Arena
Monday March 7 –  Melbourne, Rod Laver Arena
Thursday March 10 –  Adelaide Entertainment Centre
Saturday March 12 –  Perth, Burswood Dome

Pre-sales information will be posted at Rihanna’s Official Website tomorrow. In the mean time sign the petition for a “Last Girl On Earth DVD Release” – we got over 2000 signatures!

Rihanna did an amazing photoshoot in Sydney. Pictures were added to the gallery just now. Unfortunately the site was offline for the whole day. There was a fire in our hosting company’s building which caused a major downtime of all their connections. Luckily everything is all good now! But I would never imagine a fire could take RD down! Yes, we were literally on fire.
