On Metacritic, a renowned website that collates music reviews, Rihanna’s ‘Rated R’ is awarded a promising 76/100! I think we can state with certainty that ‘Rated R’ is on its way to become a critically acclaimed record. This is also a huge thing for Rihanna regarding the extent to which she has been involved in putting this album together. The Metascore for ‘Rated R’ will most likely keep rising. With an incredibly positive review, the LA Times gave it a whopping 4 out of 4 stars!

Congratulations to team Rihanna!

EDIT: The LA Times review has been taken into account. The rate went up to 79/100!
Also, there is still a great 4/5 Rolling Stone review left!

The wait is really ova. Rihanna’s fourth album in five years Rated R arrives today. What kind of rating did it receive from critics? Find out below.

Entertainment Weekly: A genuine moment of vulnerability plays stunningly on the meticulously layered “Cold Case Love,” penned by Justin Timberlake. Still, Rated R rarely delivers Top 40 fodder. Instead, it’s a raw, often unsettling portrait of an artist who is, she insists, no longer a Girl at all. B

USA Today: “Hard” is a punch in the mouth to her doubters, while “Stupid in Love” declares “the dunce cap is off.” “Wait Your Turn” brashly puts rivals in check, and “Rude Boy” maintains her dance-floor allure. But probably the most telling statement of who Rihanna is these days is the Slash-propelled “Rockstar 101,” which revels in her status as a ubiquitous celebrity. 3 out of 4

The New York Times: In the multimedia whirlwind of a 21st-century pop career, Rihanna simply couldn’t have made an album of lovey-dovey ballads or simple dance songs. Rated R does what divas do: leverage personal troubles into music. And with it, Rihanna never lets her sorrows overwhelm her musical craftsmanship or the determination behind it.

Rihanna has broken her silence regarding Chris Brown’s February assault against her in a recent series of interviews, and the singer told MTV News that her album will have a mix of songs detailing the “roller coaster” of emotions she’s experienced in the past nine months.

“It’s my mini-movie,” Rihanna said about her forthcoming album. “It’s really honest, at times vulnerable, but it came from really, really deep in here [points to heart]. I just feel like I had to call it Rated R, ’cause it’s my movie.”

MTV News previewed the album on Tuesday (November 10) and Rihanna’s description is certainly accurate.

RapRadar.com had the presure to listen to Rihanna’s latest album! Here’s what they say:

“So this afternoon along with a selected handful of critics, YN got to sit in Antonio Reid’s plush office and listen to Ri-Ri’s new album out of his Genelec Speakers. My BB and Iphone stayed in my pockets and I had to go hand-to-hand with my notes. So forgive me if the future proves my observations wrong. Here we go.

Mad House
Intro interlude. Slow plodding. Brief. No lyrics. Dark. Sets tone for record which is really cohesive.

Wait Your Turn
Sounds good through L.A.’s speakers.

Hard
Sounds really good through L.A.’s speakers.

Entertainment Weekly:

After a few listens, I think those risks absolutely pay off. Rihanna is in fine vocal form throughout, and Ne-Yo’s songwriting is economical and evocative per usual. I have a feeling “Russian Roulette” is a single we’re all going to be hearing a lot of in the coming months.

LA Times:

It’s hard to imagine it blasting out of car windows or even controlling a club, but it’s all attention-grabbing stuff, standing in stark — emphasis on stark — contrast to much of the current pop landscape.
