  • Parlux Fragrances Inc expects to launch new fragrances built around Rihanna and designer brand Vince Camuto. While 2011 revenue is expected to be dragged down to $125 million due to the expiry of the Guess Inc license in late 2009, Purches expects to make up and eventually surpass the lost sales with the launch of the Rihanna perfume in April 2011. International business can be “helped significantly in the following year by Rihanna,” Purches said.

Many of the collaborators working with Rihanna on her new album are looking to take her from the dark and moody tone of her last album — inspired mostly by the break-up with her famous ex — into a happier place, but if London-based producer/DJ duo Liv and Mim, collectively known as Nervo, have their way, singing about love won’t be off the menu.

Liv and Mim, twin sisters from Australia, known for writing and producing songs for pop elite like Ke$ha, Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue, and Kelly Rowland, and longtime collaborators of David Guetta, tell NeonLimelight.com they’ve crafted something special for the pop princess that they hope will make the final cut of RiRi’s as-yet-untitled fifth album.

“It’s a love song,” Liv told us coyly, not wanting to go into detail since the song hasn’t officially been picked up for the album, though Team Rihanna “really like” it. Pressed for more, she answered: “It has a quirky lyric actually… a really quirky lyric”

Moving from pitching the track to getting into the studio with Rihanna to bring it to life would be music to Nervo’s ears since Rihanna is high on their list of artists they’d love to work with.

“I just love her and I think ‘Rude Boy’ is such a great record,” Liv said. “She’s on fire. I really can’t wait to work with her.”

Rihanna’s new album is currently scheduled for release later this year.

The song is called “Love The Way You Lie” and it features Rihanna. On the song, Rihanna starts by singing, “Just gonna stand there and watch me burn, well, that’s alright because I like the way it hurts/Just gonna stand there and hear me cry, well, that’s alright because I love the way you lie.” From there, Em raps three verses which provide the details of a troubled relationship. There’s arguing, domestic violence, apologies and (eventually) a resolution that those within these types of romantic relationships are probably all too familiar with. Despite the subject matter, Em doesn’t pull any punches (no pun intended, obviously) and does a nice job of driving home the point that domestic violence is a vicious cycle. + Continue reading…

Creating a record to top the success of Rihanna’s “Rude Boy” is a challenge Alex Da Kid is willing to take on. The 26-year-old producer has been crafting beats for the Bajan singer’s’ forthcoming album.

Rihanna may be in the early stages of recording her fifth opus, but she’s already calling on Alex to craft records to her liking. In the past, the London native made beats specifically thinking about the pop star’s tastes. “When I first started working with [Rihanna], I was doing that,” reveals Alex, who produced “Love the Way You Lie,” her collaboration with Eminem.

As time progressed, the “Airplanes” producer took a more organic approach. “I don’t try to directly mold [a record] to her ’cause you never really know what she’s thinking,” he tells Rap-Up.com. “She wants input from other people . She doesn’t always want to come up with the ideas. She wants talented people to help come up with ideas. I just do what feels natural.”

Alex has teamed up with Rihanna on several records, none of which he can name nor describe yet. “We’ve done a couple,” he admits. “We’ve got a few good ones that will probably end up on the album.”

When brainstorming ideas to make a beat, Alex’s approach is rather simple. “[Artists] never want to do something like their last album; they want to do something fresh and new,” he states. “I just do whatever I feel like is a hot song.”

“I can definitely say that her album is definitely gonna be way more exciting, happy,” Sean Garrett told MTV News. “I hope she doesn’t mind me saying this. I love Rihanna. She’s fun, she’s like a sister, and I tend to think she doesn’t really take herself too seriously. And I think that’s what this album is gonna be about. Remember when Rihanna was just the little girl from the island and she was just having fun with ‘Pon de Replay’ and enjoying life?” Garrett continued. “It always seemed like, ‘Dag, she has that thing.’ And it wasn’t so serious until the incident happened. And everything became so serious. That’s just life. But I’m just happy to see her back. And I can definitely say the records that we’ve been working on are very positive and very explosive. Heavy in the club.”

Via VIBE.com: “What’s up, this is Bu and I’ve linked up with VIBE.COM for a new blog series. I’m going to be chronicling my experiences and role as an A&R. I have big shoes to fill as the Vice President of Def Jam, and I want you all to take a walk with me on Vibe.com. I should start by letting you know a little more about what I actually do and then give y’all a little sneak peek of what I’ve been working on. [...]

Rihanna is coming along incredibly. I’m trying to push her to where every song will be a hit from 1 to 12. I’m talking about NO album fillers. Our bar for this album is Michael Jackson’s Thriller. We got smashes from Stargate, Ester Dean, Mel & Mus and Rock City. We’re definitely going in with Ne-Yo, The-Dream and other writers and producers that have always been a part of her creative process since day one. She’s great to work with and very hands on with every song that’s being written and produced. She has visual concepts for just about every song. It’s already giving me the feel of a timeless album, and right now is her time.”

Thanks, Giamma!

When Rihanna  released her “Rated R” last fall, she showed fans that she was in a darker, more serious mood. Tracks like “Russian Roulette” and “Hard” were decidedly more introspective than her past club bangers. But if superstar French DJ David Guetta has his way, he’ll have Rih back to singing tunes like her mega-hit “Umbrella.”

“Well, you know I’m a DJ, so I make beats that make you wanna dance,” Guetta told MTV News at the Activision E3 party in Los Angeles. “And I think she was one of the first to do that in that urban world, so you know, I think it would be good for her to do it again.”

While the producer already has some material in mind for the pop star, he said it was just a matter of scheduling.

“We['re] thinking of doing something together, yes,” he revealed. “Yeah, yeah, yeah [the beat's ready], we just have to make sure it’s OK with her schedule and my schedule, ’cause … this is what happens. Unfortunately, it’s not only about the music anymore, it’s also about schedules, which is really boring but, you know.”
