“California King Bed” is the 4th international single off of Rihanna’s latest album, “LOUD”. The single for North America hasn’t been announced yet.
Don’t forget that Rihanna will perform the track at the Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday, April 3rd, with Sugarland frontwoman Jennifer Nettles. According to Ri’s facebook page, “Rihanna has a special surprise for you Navy!”
Via Rolling Stone: Rihanna is [on March 17] at a soundstage in Hollywood, expanding her brand even further. She’s the centerpiece of Nivea’s 100th-anniversary campaign, a 1.5 billion dollar marketing effort including TV spots and sponsorship of her summer tour. Today she’s filming the video for her next single, “California King Bed” which Nivea is helping underwrite in exchange for using the song in her ads. Jay-Z is in the building too, showing his support while Cuban. But when Rihanna isn’t ready, even Hov has to wait. “What up, fellas!” Rihanna says as she strides on set, wowing a bunch of union guys in cargo shorts with her flowing see-through nightgown and white lace underwear. She’s about to film some scenes with Nathan, a model she hand-picked herself. There were actually two finalist, so yesterday they both came to the set to show Rihanna their abs. Nathan’s clearly won. Today she greets him with a handshake and an icebreaker: “Hi, I’m Rihanna, nice to meet you. No boners.” The cameras roll and as they lie there, caressing in bed, her song plays over the speakers. A slow sexy ballad about skin on skin, it includes a rather risque line about having “a little last night on these sheets” – which is presumable not a reference to Nivea Soft Intensive Moisturizing Creme. Nicki Minaj’s song “Fly,” featuring Rihanna, was slated to be her next single, but now Minaj has decided to change course: Since her and the Loud singer’s albums were released within a week of each other, she wanted to let her collaborator’s tracks breathe.
So the “Fly” clip won’t see the light of day until around Memorial Day (May 30), according to her:
“I’m gonna hold off on the Rihanna video and the Rihanna single for a little bit longer,” she told MTV News. ” ‘Cause we both kind of dropped at the same time. So she has a lot of [songs] in rotation and I want to let her stuff have a moment and do its thing, dominate radio. [Instead], I wanted to come out with something more fun.”

The director who shot Rihanna’s S&M video has defended the footage, insisting it was her intention to provoke a reaction with suggestive imagery.
Melina Matsoukas isn’t surprised the clip, which sees Rihanna tied up, sucking on a banana, and whipping men, has stirred up controversy around the world – because it was her aim to shock viewers.
Matsoukas tells MTV.com, “When I go out to make something, I kind of go out with the intention to get it banned – [well] not to get it banned, I always want my stuff played – but to make something provocative. So when you do something that’s provocative, that’s usually a repercussion. It’s gonna be talked about or banned or slandered in some way. But it’s making an effect and people are having a dialogue about it, so, to me, that’s successful. I think that the imagery follows suit with what the song is. I wouldn’t play down the imagery for a song that’s so strong. It makes sense to develop it further and really take it there. So if they don’t want to play it, [fans] can watch it somewhere else. I mean, the song is called ‘S&M’!” + Continue reading…
