Rihanna is crowned queen of the The Pop Powerlist 2013, rising from her impressive 3rd place last year. Rihanna topped several categories, with her huge commercial success, combining with a very strong engagement value. Dominance in the fan value standings lead to a substantial assets and RiRi easily tops the rankings for product endorsements – with multiple advert appearances, perfume ranges, clothing ranges, and as the ambassador for a drinks company. Rihanna also achieved strong success in both singles and album sales, with multiple singles and albums populating the UK Top10. This also ensured she was one of the most played UK artists this year. Rihanna’s engagement was also very impressive, helped by worldwide interest in her fashion line which debuted at London Fashion week in 2013. Rihanna has not yet amassed the net worth of some of the longer established superstars of the music industry such as Madonna, but with her fan value riding high, this good girl gone bad looks set to be scaling the heights of The Pop Powerlist for many years to come.
“Umbrella”, the first single off Rihanna’s third album, “Good Girl Gone Bad”, was released exactly 6 years ago, on March 29, 2007.
“Umbrella” was acclaimed by music critics, many of whom appreciated the “ella, ella” hook as well as the convincing vocals with which she delivered the chorus. Entertainment Weekly ranked the song number one on the 10 Best Singles of 2007, while Rolling Stone and Time listed the song at number three on the 100 Best Songs of 2007. The song has earned Rihanna several awards and nominations. In 2007, the song won two awards at the MTV Video Music Awards, when it was nominated for four. At the 2008 Grammy Awards, “Umbrella” also earned Rihanna and Jay-Z a Grammy Award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration in addition to receiving nominations for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. It earned Rihanna two Billboard Music Awards as well.
“Umbrella” was a commercial success, topping the charts in Australia, Canada, Germany, Ireland, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States and many other countries. In the United Kingdom, it is deemed an iconic song and was one of the most played songs on radio in the 2000s. It managed to stay at number one on the UK Singles Chart for ten consecutive weeks, the longest run at number one for any single of that decade. The single was one of the highest digital debuts in the United States and remained at the top of the US Billboard Hot 100 for seven consecutive weeks.
The single’s accompanying music video was directed by Chris Applebaum and earned Rihanna a Video of the Year at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards and Most Watched Video on MuchMusic.com at MuchMusic Video Awards. Along with countless amateurs, “Umbrella” has been covered by several notable performers from a variety of musical genres, including Taylor Swift, All Time Low, McFly, OneRepublic, Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park, Vanilla Sky and The Baseballs.
Chris Brown stopped by On Air with Ryan Seacrest this morning and talked about Rihanna:
“I just tried my best to be the best man I could be over the years and just show her how remorseful and sorry I was for the incident and that time was probably the worst part of my life and being that she has and she’s a wonderful person I’m eternally grateful and thankful. It’s still like we’re kids. I try not to be too grown and be like, ‘Lets have candlelight dinner every night.’ I try to make sure everything is fun. It has to be fun and it has to be genuine.”
Chris also revealed that Rihanna will be on his next album, which will be released later this year.
Rihanna’s “Stay,” featuring Mikky Ekko, retreats 4-5 on the Hot 100 this week despite strong airplay and streaming gains. It surges 16-11 on Radio Songs (71 million, up 30%) and holds at No. 9 on Streaming Songs (3.4 million, up 15%). The cut holds at No. 3 on Digital Songs with a 6% decline to 222,000.

RiRi took hew new hair inspiration from an ELLE Magazine assistant. Here’s the story:
My job that day: Travel to Paris, assist Anne-Marie Curtis on our Rihanna cover shoot for the April Issue. A hard job but somebody had to hang out with the lady herself and help her in and out of outfits all day. I have since become a fan. When I’d ask Rihanna to put one of her own River Island designs on she’d respond with things like, “you are so (effing) cute”. ‘Cute?’ I remember thinking; my hair a mess, my jumper full of clips and safety pins – the uniform of a fashion assistant – and way too tired to feel even slightly cute. But hey, rihanna doesn’t tell you that everyday right? At some point she asked if her hairdresser could take a few pictures of my hair as she really liked it…”I am gonna copy your hair, haha” she said. And I laughed too. My surprise in the new year? A degrade effect long haired Rihanna showing up in every picture or paper I pick up, and the only thing I can think about is how proud is my hairdresser gonna be back in Madrid.

The singer is the most popular act on streaming service Spotify, which has revealed that data in conjunction with International Women’s Day on March 8.
Rihanna’s big hits ‘We Found Love’ and ‘Diamonds’ have helped her top the list, with six of her studio albums available to listen to on the service.

After the Rihanna for River Island presentation during London Fashion Week, its namesake designer, the biggest pop star on the planet, came out for a bow. Accompanying her was a boyish, mustachioed fellow. Most of the audience had no clue who he was. Beaming, he turned to Rihanna and applauded.
This was Adam Selman, Rihanna’s costume designer, who worked with her on the collection. You’re probably more familiar with Mr. Selman than you think. He makes the costumes the singer wears for appearances and videos — those that are not culled from high-fashion labels — like the pink faux-fur bomber from her 777 Tour and the white halter dress from the “Battleship” premiere. The list is long enough to stock a department store. One creation is particularly ubiquitous: the pineapple bikini in her Vita Coco ad.
“I made a mini-collection,” Mr. Selman said, “a whole rail of pineapple clothes. She came to the set and loved it. Every country we go to, there’s a billboard with that pineapple bikini.”
