Only a few more days until the year’s biggest aliens-at-sea adventure movie “Battleship” sails into theaters in the United States. In addition to the intrigue surrounding the sheer spectacle of the film and the very attractive cast, the Peter Berg-directed tentpole features the highly anticipated motion-picture debut of pop superstar Rihanna.

In the film, Rihanna plays the no-nonsense, tough-as-nails Petty Officer Cora “Weps” Raikes, who delivers one of the film’s more memorable one-liners, as well as a believably badass performance. When MTV News caught up with the “Where Have You Been” singer in Hawaii recently, they asked if she looked to any specific action movies or actresses for inspiration.

“There were a few — I won’t name them, but there were a few,” Rihanna admitted of studying other badass onscreen ladies. “[They were] mostly actresses I looked to and looked up to and embodied their characters and tried to see how they would approach the action. I watched a lot of bad bitches,” she said with a smile.

In looking ahead toward a potential acting career, Rihanna said she doesn’t have a specific five-year-plan, but she hopes to be able to explore more opportunities as they come her way.

“You can’t plan for anything, the unknown really. I hadn’t done anything in acting so I didn’t feel like it was appropriate to have any plan,” she said. “I didn’t know if I would like it or be good at it. I really enjoyed the experience and I want to do more, try different types of roles so that I can see what I excel in most or like best.”

At the age of 24, Rihanna has taken the pop music world by storm and is now expanding her career into acting with her first film Batttleship. While Rihanna has natural singing ability, does she have it in her to be a great actor as well? Veteran actor Liam Neeson shared his opinion on the matter with ET at the film’s Los Angeles premiere.

After clarifying that Rihanna was his “new girlfriend,” Neeson had kind words to say about his co-star and her acting abilities. “She’s the real deal,” he evaluated. “I think if she wants to change careers, she’s got a real career [in acting]. The camera loves her; she has great energy, great spirit, great spunk. She’s pretty cool.”

Rihanna expressed excitement to be at her first Hollywood premiere and was eager for her fans see the film. She gave ET an update on her health after recently posting a photo on Twitter with an IV in her arm. “I’m a lot better now,” she assured. “I had the flu [and] I kept working [so] I wasn’t getting better. I had to stop for a couple days and I definitely feel a lot better after I rested and got some fluids.”

Brooklyn Decker, who made the transition from modeling to acting last year with Just Go With It, talked about how she thinks her sophomore film will do in comparison to the box-office giant The Avengers, which broke the box-office record for opening weekend ticket sales.

“Honestly, I was nervous knowing that they were so close to us but the fact that they did so well–I mean, they broke every single record possible–I feel like it only bodes well for the rest of the summer movies,” she theorized. “I feel like they started a really good precedent for all of us. So, I’m hoping we can ride that wave a little bit.”

Rihanna tells Cambio that the atmosphere on the set of “Battleship” wasn’t just work hard, but play hard too.

“[Director/Producer] Peter Berg is a lot of fun. He’s wild. It spreads all the way down through his film and crew all the way back to the cast,” she says. “We played pranks on each other constantly.”

She released two remixes with her ex, Chris Brown, earlier this year that had everyone talking, but Rihanna explained:

“Doing what you want means moving forward with the way you feel and living your truth… sometimes there are a lot of people who won’t agree with you, but it has to be your truth.”

Rihanna also laughed about her mother’s sense of humor regarding her daughter’s rumored love life:

“I took a picture with someone at the TIME 100 gala and I showed her, and she said, ‘Oh I thought it was Ashton! I thought it was Mr. Kutcher!’ She’s funny. She’s crazy. I love my mom.”

As for her big debut in “Battleship,” Rihanna still thinks it’s “weird” being called an actress:

“That doesn’t even sound right. That’s so, so weird to hear actress next to my name.” Rihanna plays a Navy cadet who must battle an armada of unknown origin in order to discover and thwart their destructive goals. The songstress said: “I never thought that I would have had these experiences, you know, shooting the weapons and all that cool stuff, especially not in my first movie.” On training for the role, the “We Found Love” singer said she paid “close attention” to her diet, but now, “I’m not careful with what I eat, because I’m trying to gain weight… just a little bit.”

Rihanna has released a sexy new video, “Where Have You Been.” She explained:

“Nothing about this video is raunchy. It’s all thematic, very artistic. There’s more dancing than there been for a long time, so that should be exciting and new for my fans.”

Rihanna’s dating life is known to make just as many headlines as her music, as well as her blossoming movie career – but the star tells Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson that’s she’s single.

“I am a bachelorette,” the 24-year-old revealed at the “Battleship” junket in Hawaii. “Still eligible?” Shaun asked. “Yes,” the singer-turned-actress said. So what does Rihanna want in a potential beau? “A guy that smells good,” she explained. “If I see you and look good, chances are you won’t turn my head. I will look away… but if you smell good, I will whip my neck around! [A guy] can’t leave until I figure out what [he’s] wearing.” Luckily for future men in the superstar’s life, she’s about help out guys who might not smell up to par. “I am making my own male fragrance,” she told Shaun. “I want dudes to smell like [when] you wake up, you know that smell… their cologne is a little bit old… you spray it on their jackets and take it with you just to keep them there, that it smells cozy and it smells sexy.” When it comes to her big screen debut, the star was a bit rattled upon hearing herself. “I hate to hear myself speak,” Rihanna explained. “Especially because I was speaking in an American accent… but I guess I’ve always been like that. I hate to hear myself speak, so now it’s a whole different thing. I have to get used to it.” Rihanna also cleared up recent remarks she gave to Rolling Stone, where she stated she liked being submissive, at times, in a relationship. “I think, not all women, because I can’t speak for all women, but girls like me, women like me – we’re into that,” she explained. Adding, “Not like we have to be submissive. We can totally take charge of the relationship. We just let them wear the pants. We let them borrow the pants, so that they can feel good and in turn we feel better.
