Happy Birthday, “FourFiveSeconds”
Exactly a year ago, we were all taken by surprise when “FourFiveSeconds”, the first single from Rihanna’s upcoming 8th album, “ANTI”, came out!
“The thing that made me fall in love with “FourFiveSeconds” is the juxtaposition of the music and the lyrics. When you read the lyrics it’s a completely different song than what you are hearing. The music is easygoing, but the lyrical content is very loud and in your face. In performing this, the key was to make sure the aggression wasn’t lost.” — Rihanna
The track, which received critical acclaim, reached No. 1 on iTunes in over 40 countries. It also peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and at No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Internationally, “FourFiveSeconds” reached number one in Australia, Denmark, Ireland, Luxembourg, New Zealand and Sweden, as well as the top-three in Canada, France and the United Kingdom.
The music video, directed by Dutch photographer duo Inez and Vinoodh, became VEVO Certified less than two months after its release. Watch:
Rihanna, Paul McCartney and Kanye West performed “FourFiveSeconds” for the first time at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards and the performance received highly positive reviews. The song received a nomination for Collaboration of the Year at the American Music Awards of 2015.
In case you don’t remember, this is how Rihanna reacted the moment the song was released:
“FourFiveSeconds” was written by Kanye West, Paul McCartney, Kirby Lauryen, Mike Dean, Sign, Dave Longstreth, Dallas Austin, Elon Rutberg and Noah Goldstein. It was produced by West and McCartney, co-produced by Dean, while additional production was provided by Longstreth and Goldstein.
Happy Birthday, “FourFiveSeconds”!!!
