What happens when a trendsetting music sensation shakes hands with a popular high street fashion chain? Rihanna For River Island. Ever since the exciting news was announced last year, anticipation has been rife for each seasonal instalment from this collaboration.

The debut spring collection launched at London Fashion Week and proved to be a dream come true for both Rihanna and her Navy alike. Rihanna’s personal style could be seen in each piece, showing that the artist-turned-designer was fearless in getting hands-on with her latest project. Splashes of lime green gave an exotic flare to crop tops and dresses. The denim skirt and shirt-around-the-waist combo married both casual and chic. And no outfit in this collection would’ve felt complete without the statement footwear that accompanied it. Throughout this first instalment, Rihanna displayed her Caribbean roots with each cut of fabric.

With the summer season, Rihanna dared to experiment with sheerer fabrics and bolder, monochrome prints. On the crest of the fashion wave, it’s no surprise the numbers from this collection sold out as fast as they did. Classy, elegant pinks were introduced with rays of flamboyant red, reflecting perfectly the diverse fashions that Rihanna loves to play with. Fun prints and a selection of long, flowing dress made this ensemble ideal for summer.

The autumn instalment arrived with an edgier look, expressing the Barbadian beauty’s taste for boyish cuts. This penultimate collection recruited cameo patterns and sporty details, which complimented the warmer pieces. The monochrome vibe continued into an eye-catching bodycon dress and a beanie that bears the signature ‘G4L’ emblem. Rihanna herself seemed ecstatic about this instalment, wearing numerous pieces on her adventures around the globe. She wasn’t the only one excited. Both adoring fans and admiring fashionistas greeted her new designs eagerly as their wardrobe wishes were granted.

For the grand finale, the vibrant reds came back in a tartan remix. This print was artfully combined with a timeless mac design, creating a key piece in this winter instalment. Other iconic numbers include the tuxedo dresses, which appear to be the perfect blend of masculinity and femininity, following Rihanna’s ladylike elegance and edgy playfulness. Embossed leather and luxurious oriental patterns also feature in this final collection.

Rihanna For River Island is a huge success and no doubt many women have left River Island with rockstar confidence. The inspired designs are wearable and versatile, with Rihanna keeping her expert finger right on the pulse of fashion. But this achievement does beg the question – what’s coming next from Robyn Rihanna Fenty, in regards to the design front? The world of fashion will wait with baited breath.
