New preview: Rihanna on Oprah’s Next Chapter
    Posted by on 3:29pm in

Via ETonline: Rihanna is opening up extensively for the first time about the domestic violence incident involving Chris Brown and we’ve got an exclusive clip from her new interview with Oprah.

In the interview in her native Barbados for Oprah’s OWN show Oprah’s Next Chapter, the R&B superstar said the incident in February 2009 before the Grammy Awards quickly became a media circus.

“I lost my best friend… everything I knew switched — switched in a night. And I couldn’t control that,” she told Oprah. “It’s not easy to interpret on camera, not with the world watching.”

Rihanna gets emotional over the abuse, but oddly she felt “protective” in the aftermath of the incident, for which Brown was later charged with assault.

“I felt like the only person they hate right now is him. It was a weird, confusing space to be in,” she reveals. “Because as angry as I was — as angry and hurt and betrayed — I just felt like he made that mistake because he needed help,” Rihanna added. “And who’s going to help him? Nobody’s going to say he needs help, everybody’s going to say he’s a monster, without looking at the source. And I was more concerned about him.”

For the full interview, tune in Sunday to Oprah’s Next Chapter at 9 p.m. on OWN.

Rihanna talks a big game but you can tell, jut by this little snippet of an interview, that she has alot of insecurities. She probably feels as though she let alot of people down, including her mother whom suffered from domestic abuse. She is likely hiding behind the bad girl persona but on the inside she is that young Robyn from the "Pon De Replay" Days. I hope this interview closes this chapter of her life for good and it makes her rethink her life and image as a whole, I think we can agree when I say we want the Happy,Aware and Vibrant Rih Rih back, and not the one that lashes out with sex crazed songs and scandals. I know Rih is going though alot with the death of her Grandmother and she needs someone to genually say "I love you" and not the "I love you Rihanna because you make me alot of money." but the "I love you Robyn because you are beautiful inside and out." So with that said, I hope Rihanna trully finds peace in herself and I wosh her all the best.

      • Gantunu

Absolutely ,@Eric Thomas, you're right, you have talked of something like," I love you " coz she's beautiful inside and out, this is much more better and i believe almighty God is soon answering her answer, RiRi, keep your faith.

    • alison

Riri's 1st thought was to help Cb because no one else would well the LA Court system sent him to domestic violence class to work on his issues regarding violence towards females. I hope it took but i doubt it. She needs to stay far away from him. Let him work on his own issues. The man isn't worth any of her tears or time.

      • Elliot

AMEN! I couldn't have said that better myself.

      • SOSMANDOWN

Well said alison!!!! You get a medal for that one!!

    • ikkinnik

I already sensed that's where her mind was when the situation was going on and I totally understand.

    • ikkinnik

By the way, her eyes are just freaking gorgeous.

    • RihannaNavy

THOSE GREEN EYES <3 <3 that dress really brought her eye color!

    • RihannaNavy

      <3<3<3:*

    • Dani

I pains me to see her cry. I love her so much and the fact that she still cries about it means that she still has alot of pain and insecurities still left from that time. I hope that this will be the last time she has to talk about this because she needs to move to a new chapter in her life where she can put this behind her and move on. I'm glad that she finally let it all out in this interview so she can put this behind her finally. I hope she can finally find peace and happiness and move on from this. I wish her nothing but peace and happiness. We love you Robyn ❤ :)

    • Jayne

I would hope the crying only started when Oprah asked that burning question she had since 2009.

Love you Rihanna!!Crying and talking about it will make u feel better!!Don't hide anything in your heart!! <3 <3

    • tyra

Y DID MY COMMENT GET MODERATED I DIDNT EVEN SAY ANYTHING BAD

      • http://twitter.com/JoCScott @JoCScott

        What did you say?

    • SOSMANDOWN

@ Robyn Rihanna Fenty, You were concerned about him? Be concerned about yourself. All he had to do was walking away, deal with it another day, he made the decision, now he has to live with it, the rest of his life. That's life, fame or no fame.

    • SOSMANDOWN

Just watch the clip, no one's going to help him because he has to help himself. To this day everytime his songs come on the radio I change that crap!! He'll be in jail by the time he reaches 30. quote me on that!

    • SOSMANDOWN

@ Lipcrkr, I commented your comment on Aug. 13th. lol!

    • yvonne

      she is truly amazing!!!

    • bodacious

Oh this seem like it's going to be so touching i can feel
what she is saying, she's showing that she have grown
up so much in the last couple of years and she's still
      growing, wonderful to see!!

I just want to wrap my arms around Rih right now. She is so brave opening up to Oprah about the infamous bust up with that loser CB.

    • Setra

I can’t wait to see this interview, this is one of my favorite shows and it will be good to see Rihanna finally open up to Oprah, who has such excellent interviewing skills. It looks like it will be very sad to hear but also very telling. I love this show and I never miss it. Thanks to the suggestion of my Dish coworker, I’ve been watching some of my favorite shows on my phone. My app of choice is the Dish Remote Access app. I like it because I can both set up DVR timers and watch live and recorded shows all from my phone. I love the convenience of not missing any of my favorite shows and watching TV while I commute.

"I just felt like he made that mistake because he needed help,” Rihanna added. “And who’s going to help him? Nobody’s going to say he needs help, everybody’s going to say he’s a monster, without looking at the source. And I was more concerned about him.” This women is ridiculous ! That is an utterly ridiculous statement! I love me some RiRi, but wow Rihanna, really?!

      • betrix

I believe her remark speaks to a lack of self esteem and experience. People who are firm in their self worth and has good parental role models to help them in their formative years may experience abuse but they tend to have enough clarity and confidence for self preservation.

    • M

^ That’s what real love is. She obviously loved him unconditionally, love completely changes your perspective and I’m not surprised people who have never been in love don’t understand it and want to judge. I’m no Chrianna fan or whatever, I’m just facing the reality of the situation.

I just hope that she can finally move on from this and find someone else. The reality is that love is not enough if the relationship is toxic or abusive. She said that she thinks he needs help and I believe that he STILL does.

    • Lipcrkr

Attn:Navy…..Lets not confuse the woman beater with someone who just made a mistake. He has constantly made "mistakes" by first……beating Rihanna to a pulp and leaving her bleeding body in the street, Rihanna admitted in the "interview" that "he" beat her up at another time but Rihanna was apologetic, she claimed she didn't bleed, in which the interviewer questioned her by saying something like "it doesn't matter if you bled, he HIT you. Then "he" busted a windshield out of a rent a car for whatever reason, he also through out a chair onto the street that luckily no one was killed. And we will never know how many times Rihanna was hit but was never reported or someone kept quiet about.
Rihanna needs to stay away from him or god forbid she will die. I hope Oprah, but seriously doubt it, that Oprah conveys that message one again to Rihanna.

      • Bodacious

        @Lipcrkr cosign Ofc great read<3

      • betrix

I didn't realize so much abuse had occurred. What's wrong with her that she let it get to that point? What about her parents and close friends? Someone had to know the truth because someone always knows. This means she can't trust the people close to her to have her best interest at heart if this wasn't the first time.

    • rihanna stay slaying

Rihanna the navy will always have ur back!!! U need to focus on making more classic music and getting more endorsements so the navy can brag to the trolls that hate on ur success!!!

    • Precious

Wow i really loved reading your comments guys “RihannaNavy”.I agree with few of u saying rihanna should stop talking about this its no more news wether and move I see she was hurt, but she must get help and move on, other wise she will die insure or kill herself.I know someone who did that.Rihanna Navy

    • Veronica

Wow!took the words right of my mouth!did u guyz expect Oprah not to ask her about the issue?I agree she doesn’t need him but she’s only human. Moreover she needed to answer the questions especially with those Chrihanna reunion rumors!some of you are just..

    • Tyson

I think Rihanna did A wonderful job answering Oprah question . Let's be mindful of Rihanna feeling with her Interviews whether It's Ophar or A magazine . She can say I would like for you not to ask me question about what happen 3 or 4 years ago ,I can't remember any more but It's up to the Interviewer . Firest her camp sat everything up for her and second If A magazine going to spend time and money putting her on the cover which Is A honor, but they get to ask you question your not happy with. Now she can refuse to answer and Rihanna has and the magazine just pull some stuff from some other article and keep going thats tihe interviewer job . Rihanna Is dam If she do and dam If she don't .

    • panhumbly

Will definitely need a lot of Kleenex while watching this interview,,,watching u cry ,made me cry. People who have never been in an abusive relationship will find it difficult to ascertain the fact that she will want to help some1 who has hurt her so much. The truth is,she loved him so much. An abuser can make u believe that u are the reason for him being abusive.with that, the victim feels like he/she got to do something to help them. She still got some feelings for him,i hope this interview takes out every last drop of love she had for cb and drop it very far where she wouldn't go. Pray u find love Riri,,,,stay strong and never stop believing in love. Love is on its way,,,,the Navy got your back. You are not a bad girl so please stop trying to be one.
P.S please follow @mambo06 on twitter,,,,love new friends. God Bless y'all!

    • Tyson

Let's not forget to keep buying TTT US navy !!!!!!!!! <3<3

    • Bodacious

    • Andy

I love Oprah simply because she's giving me the question's I want to know… These interviews she has done so far (talking about Hanna here) are like so Rihanna what new tattoo have you got. To me I don't care about tattoos when i see them i'm like oh nice fine done I wanna know what happened that night in the car, I want to know why she is acting the way she is these days, Most Interviewers dance around the questions like Ryan Secrest did with the whole duet thing so i hope this Oprah interview can give me some sanity and take down these things i have thought about rihanna over the last few years since Rated R

    • Gantunu

RiRi , as you are concerned about da incident of 2009, the world and myself too got concerned since it was so painful… But get to know you never invited it at all and do absolutely believe it happened for da reason , only be free , strong as you have been, trust me God loves you so much and will always be your shield.#<3,, i really can't wait for Sunday 9pm

    • Sofi

She is right. It's very hard to lose your best friend, and your relationship=/
