You're making the assumption that all people on social network sites purchase the albums of every artist they follow on twitter or "like" on FB. That is flawed logic. & the fact that you can sit there and seriously compare Rihanna with Adele shows that you lack an understanding of how the music industry works. Adele has sold more albums in 2011 than ANY ARTIST in the past seven years. In general, album sales are declining (hello, Digital Age), but Adele is a rarity in this industry; definitely not the rule or a standard that can or will be achieved by anyone else. Not to mention that Rihanna has a completely different audience than Adele's, which has the propensity to purchase more albums b/c they are older & have that disposable income. Rih appeals to a younger crowd, who, for the most part, purchase fewer albums; perhaps why she is the highest selling digital artist. HOWEVER, you seem to also assume that the U.S is the centre of the universe. Yes, Rihanna doesn't seem to be too popular in the States ; her album has sold under 600K units.
