Ary added: ”We always squeeze it in.” She told the new issue of Britain’s Star magazine: ”Rihanna has a gifted physique. She can become lean, get ‘baby guns’ [biceps] and firm up her core quickly. Meet URSULA STEPHEN, celebrity stylist and visionary who creates all these looks and keeps RIHANNA’s hair healthy. Stephen shares the most important steps in creating Rihanna hair looks, her “hairspriations,” and offers tips to keep your hair looking great.
JUICY: Where do you get your hair inspirations from?
Ursula Stephen: I take inspiration from so many areas in my life, many of my travels and even old movies.
JUICY: What is your process when creating a hair look for Rihanna?
US: There are so many different things that go into creating a hair look for Rihanna, from the type of event she is attending to the outfit she’ll be wearing. We try to identify what the message we want want to send and then we go from there.
JUICY: With so many changes how do you protect Rihanna’s hair from damage?
US: I protect Rihanna’s hair by giving her a lot of conditioning treatments. I sometimes use Motions Deep Penetrating Mask. The most important thing is to never let the hair get dry to keep breakage to a minimum. You also have to know when to say enough is enough and give it a break from the heat.
JUICY: What are some product/techniques for making Rihanna’s hair look great for concerts, red carpet, and shoots?
US: Techniques definitely change between red carpet appearances and editorial shoots. For editorial there is there is a lot more hair spray, and it’s more of a natural style when Rihanna is walking the red carpet. Comes down to an illusion vs. real life!
JUICY: Name your top all-time favorite Rihanna hairstyles.
US: I loved the choppy bob for the MTV Video Music Awards in 2007, the really dark short black hair at the Teen Choice Awards in 2008, the Rated R album packaging with the edgy shaved sides and blonde swoop in the front. Last but not least, I love the red classic updo we did for the EMA’s in 2010.
JUICY: What tips can you give our readers for how to wear color and keep it looking great with at home products.
US: Her red is so pretty but it fades so fast! So it’s so important to invest in color preserving products. Color preserving shampoos, conditioners, and daily stylers, to help keep color locked in and looking vibrant!
