Rihanna’s VMA Appearance Top Twitter Topic

Even though the VMAs were only half over, nothing got Twitter followers more excited than Rihanna’s surprise opening performance with Eminem. Slim Shady launched the show with a performance of “Not Afraid,” before the camera cut to Rihanna standing on the stage singing the opening chords of “Love the Way You Lie.”

Fans took to Twitter with their thoughts, and Rihanna and Eminem became two of the most talked-about performers of the night. More than 4,700 tweets per minute were posted after Rihanna’s performance, with the VMAs following her and Eminem being third most popular.
“SURPRISE!!!….just had to do it guys,” Rihanna tweeted after the performance, and fans responded in kind.

Anyway, something was telling me Rihanna was going to make a surprise appearance last night and to be honest that was the only exciting thing about the entire show.   Eminem was blown away by Rihanna flying in just to do a couple of minutes with him on the stage. The hug he gave her was from the heart. Rihanna also understands that Eminem took a risk having Rihanna on board because of his core audience (i have always been an Em fan and of course Rihanna).
  This is for the haters who have found yet another reason to hate Rihanna, and to show how clueless they are.
  Many of them are complaining that "you see, she has no stage presence, she's just standing there, looks like she's pouting, doesn't want to be there".
  Well, to all the haters…..i was there, i was sitting to her right as she was standing there looking at Eminem. Rihanna was on fire, she was performing the freakin' song IN CHARACTER!. She was in full acting mode, she was reacting to Eminem's words. You couldn't see all of it unless you were in the audience because obviously they had to show Eminem as well. Rihanna wasn't there to dance, she wasn't there to shake hands with us sitting near the stage while she was performing, this performance was a scene from a movie. Her performance was about domestic abuse, she and Em were two people in character singing about a serious subject. They knew millions of young people would see this, they wanted to show how serious a problem abuse is. Many of us there were so impressed with Rihanna and how she was able to portray an abuse victim not only for a limited amount of time on stage, but the ability to be oblivious to the surroundings which in this case was a necessity. Rihanna will be in demand for acting roles for years to come.
