Dropping a dollar sign into your given name is, as Vince Vaughn’s character in Swingers might say, so money.
And pop upstart Ke$ha’s probably making buckets of it, given the success of Tik Tok, the first single off her debut album, Animal, which came out earlier this year.
Ke$ha emerged onstage Sunday night from the middle of a collection of vertical LED banks which were then rolled apart into a trio of independent units.
Strapped with a guitar modified to resemble a machine gun – which she “played” for a couple of minutes – and coupled with her Clockwork Orange-inspired eye makeup on one eye, Ke$ha is sending us a clear message: she is a naughty, naughty girl.
There is, of course, nothing Clockwork Orange about Ke$ha or her vapid party girl lyrics, regardless of how many Metallica shirts she owns.
But she clearly has a knack for writing infectiously catchy tunes, the kind designed to get lodged in the back of your brain for obnoxious stretches of time.
Take the delightful ditty Dinosaur: “Old man why are you staring at me/Mac on me and my friends, it’s kind of creepy/You should be prowling around the old folks’ home/Come on dude, leave us alone…”
Charming, right? Then again, nobody endorses creepy old men save for creepy old men, so no harm no foul. And the young girls in the crowd enthusiastically shouting the chorus “D-I-N-O-S-A, you are a Dinosaur!” made it clear that Kei$ha’s lyrics are right on the money.
Unfortunately, Ke$ha’s auto-tune habit and reliance on tracking vocals made it difficult to tell whether she can actually sing. Some might say she’s just another overproduced studio singer whose 15 minutes will Tik Tok down real soon. Time will tell. And if that’s the case, hopefully Kei$a’s smart enough to save as many dollar signs as she can before her time runs out.
Speaking of time running out, Rihanna didn’t hit the stage until 9:24 p.m., which gave me exactly six minutes to write the rest of this review.

Shut Up and Drive was high-energy fare, with Rihanna’s six-piece band cranking up the decibel level to a chorus of screams.
Disturbia was accompanied by frenetic visuals: dancers, a couple of stilt-walking creatures who looked like they escaped from Burning Man, and more video edits than Apocalypse Now.
The world wasn’t ending of course, but with her powerful voice and slick stage design, Rihanna is brashly announcing to everybody that she’s more than ready to take it on.
Did you ever get so wasted before a show that you never made it? It would suck to blow a chance to see Rihanna open her Rated R North American tour with Ke$ha opening. A near sellout concert too. What a drag, huh?
This thought crossed my mind as the EMT crew tried to find the pulse of a girl splayed outside the Pita King across from GM Place. Decked out like the majority of the mostly female audience in waist-high hemlines, balancing act stilettos and the various uplifting accessories on the fashion plate of late, the woman was right out of Ke$ha’s “Party at a Rich Girl’s House.” Although, she’d clearly passed the ‘still drunk’ phase from party bumpin’ to stomach pumpin’ mode.
Too bad for her. Ke$ha was a hot.
The American chart-topper’s full-on ’80s electropop is as adept at finding a simple hook and riding it to death as were her predecessors in bands such as early Madonna, C&C Music Factory, Aquagirl, Technotronic and so on. Her eight-piece band not only looked great with their assorted mohawks and torn up glitter gear, but were so upbeat and disco draggy that when two of the boys started skipping across the stage flag-waving I was genuinely surprised they weren’t rainbow flags.
Trampy, vampy and with a great deal of sass and slap, Ke$ha was the sort of opening act that can go either way for the headliner. Either they rile up the room right where you want it, or blow you off stage and leave a lasting impression over all. Rihanna was probably safe on that count.
She arrived, literally, on a pedestal.
As her sextet laid down the back beat, Rihanna appeared in a shimmering gown only to be shot by her dancers dressed up in German spike-topped helmets and pink rifles to match the bright pink tank stage right. Having lost the bottom of her gown, Rihanna was better able to straddle the tank’s long barrel during “Hard.” It went off.
During “Disturbia,” spider-like giant stilt walkers and ghoulish dancers surrounded her as spooky video played out. The song ended with the curtains dropping and a video interlude. Costume change action.
She reappeared in those signature thigh-high rubber boots and bodysuit to writhe all over for “Rockstar.” A stupid and played out lyric and song, but it was pretty funny when she put on a guitar to, well, pose with it. People ate it up anyways.
All in all, super slick stadium power ballad bombast. But with enough West Indian dancehall and beat thrown in to somewhat separate her from her peers. At least Rihanna can sing.

The concert last night in Vancouver was pretty awesome!

FIrst day : i enter in a mall (one f the biggest mall in middle east by the way) so they start playing rude boy , i was like woow that’s good , then omgod umbrella i was really happy , but i didn’t imagine that they’re gonna play don’t stop the music after , i didn’t buy anything i was just listenning .
Second day : i went 2 see Prince of percia (which is really great) , the movie was supposed 2 start at 3:00 pm , and at 3:00 pm exactly when i enter in the cinema , they was playing LOVE THE WAY YOU LIE !!!!!!!!
i was morrrre than happy , and i didn”t see 7 minutes of the movie , but it”s ok .

Rih is the happiest in her life right now. Her career is going strong and she has fans who go hard for her. Rih family love her no matter what she does in her life. Rih has friends who stand by her through good and bad times. Matt loves and adores Rih. This has to be the happiest time in Rih’s life.
I know we say it a lot, but I am so proud of Rih from not giving up on her life. To me Rih has the most love in her young life than she has ever had before. Rih is not only surviving all she went through, but right now in all areas of her life she is thriving.

The main thing is Matt and Rih ended the night together. I wonder what Matt will do if he does not get one of the last roster spots for the NL All-Star team. I know up until last week it looked like he was going to be spending his three days with Rih. The only show he has seen of Rih’s is the Abu Dhabi performance. It would be nice if Matt showed up at one of Rih’s concerts.

Matt won’t be at the All Star game. He will, however, be performing with RiRi on the 12th, 13th, and 14th. @ Salt Lake City and @ Albuquerque. The opening number will be “If it’s Lovin’ That You Want” and will end with “Hard”. These three performances will be the most exhausting on the entire tour. I’m sure Rihanna can pull it off.

At least Matt and Rih will get to spend July 12 together. I know Rih will be traveling on July 13. All they need is one night together anyway to keep their love strong. It is a blessing for Matt and Rih to have their own lives outside of their relationship, because when they come back together their love will be stronger.

We are always going back to Matt and Rih talk. I do not mind though because Matt and Rih have something deep going on ladies. I believe we can officially say Rih is in love now. I believe the love Matt and Rih have for one another took both of them by suprise. I do not know what Matt’s intentions were from the beginning. Rih made her intentions very clear around Nov/Dec 09. To me Rih was not looking to find love this quick, and when she started falling for Matt it probably terrified her. I am so proud of Rih for not running from love, but embracing love with Matt.
