I know Rihanna has it down when it comes to producing hit after hit, but I’ve never been the biggest of fans until now.
The 22-year-old singer put on such a jaw-dropping, show-stopping performance at London’s O2 Arena that I’m now a converted Rihanna fan for life.
Rihanna’s raunchy display, complete with cannon straddling and giant spiders on stilts, dazzled and captured the 22,000 strong audience (and myself) for a fantastic two hours.
During the concert she changed into a variety of costumes including a floor-length black dress with red flashing lights, a nude jumpsuit with strategically placed white tape and a black latex body teamed with thigh-high boots, which some say is her sexiest ever costume!
Rihanna began her 62-date ‘The Last Girl On Earth’ tour in Belgium last month and is due to finish in New York on August 28th.
The singer performed a 22-song live set, kicking off the show with her 2009 hit single, Russian Roulette and ending with her biggest hit to date, Umbrella, which held the UK number one spot for 10 weeks in 2007.
Rihanna has really embraced her rockier side, from collaborations with Slash to drum lessons with Travis Barker. There was a strong Military and Rock theme to the night, which included her playing a drum solo and strapping on an electric guitar during Rockstar 101.
The star is really playing around with fusing different genres of music into her sound. It’s not widely known, but last year she worked in the studio with UK Drum & Bass duo Chase and Status.
Before the gig I had a short meet and greet session with her. In the brief few moments we shared she admitted to me her disappointment in the fact that Chase & Status couldn’t make it to the show, so I wonder whether we might hear Rihanna’s sound gravitate more towards Dub and DnB in the not too distant future?!
There’s just one mistake about the tour… it doesn’t finish in August.
Thank you Nat for letting us know about it since it’s not recently posted video but actually pretty old.
