Be sure to read this review by Jodipop Carrington. If you haven’t bought tickets for Rihanna’s Last Girl On Earth Tour yet, what are you waiting for?
Me and my friend only found out a couple of hours before the show that we were going to the LG Arena as we won tickets through a local radio station competition. I had regretted not getting tickets for the concert so I was over the moon and the fact it was Block 16 (right at the front) just made it even better.
To be honest I was not sure what to expect. Someone had talked me out of buying the tickets, claiming she couldn’t sing live. But from the moment I saw the flames come onto the screen and she sang the first note of Russian Roulette I knew that it was all a lie. Every note she sang was in tune and this continued throughout the whole show as she continued to shock the audience with more extreme stage props such as a bright pink tank and giant monster creatures.
The show revolves around her dreams and nightmares. Although I couldn’t really see the videos shown, it didn’t matter at all because I could just enjoy watching her climb onto the tank or casually sit on a piano. Everything she did seemed to have a deeper meaning.
Although I thoroughly enjoyed the props and movement, my favourite bit was seeing her stripped down to just her voice during 3 songs: Unfaithful, Stupid in love and Take a bow. I was most looking forward to Unfaithful however I ended up crying by the end of Take a bow. It brought make so many memories linked to that song that I never knew existed. Seeing the crowd cheering for their life on the line ‘How about a round of applause’ was quite mesmorising.
For the majority of the show I was dancing on my own in the asle as no one around me would move a muscle. But that just gave me more energy and excitement knowing that she would look up and see me dancing. I found that she did manage to include the whole audience by using both stages equally and all areas of the stage, with help of a rotating platform.
If someone asked me if they should go and see Rihanna live, I would give them this advice: Don’t listen to what other people say about her vocally because her vocals are flawless, get standing as it looked so much cooler to be closer to her, stand on the middle stage (gold circle area blocks the general standers at the front) and to buy the tickets before they sell out!!
Honestly, she’s a true star and I never realised that before tonight.
