Billboard Hot 100 singles chart: “Rude Boy” by Rihanna jumps into the #1 spot, the 22-year old star’s 5th #1 solo single (and overall 6th #1 career single) in less than four years.

Rihanna is now the female artist with most number 1 singles (S.O.S., Umbrella, Disturbia, Take A Bow, Live Your Life, Rude Boy) in the United States since 2000 – she’s not tied with anyone. She also has 8 top 3 singles, 14 top 10, and 18 top 20 singles!

Rihanna replaces labelmate Taio Cruz atop the Billboard Hot 100, set to be released tomorrow (Thursday, March 18), as her latest single “Rude Boy” jumps 4-1.
“Rude” is Rihanna’s sixth Hot 100 No. 1 and fifth as a lead artist. Her most recent chart-topper had been as a featured vocalist on T.I.’s “Live Your Life” in 2008. Her other leaders are “SOS” (2006, three weeks), “Umbrella,” featuring Jay-Z (2007, seven weeks), “Take A Bow” (2008, 1 week) and “Disturbia” (2008, two weeks)
Since debuting on the scene in June 2005 with the No. 2-peaking “Pon De Replay,” Rihanna has posted more Hot 100 No. 1 than any other artist. Next in line is Justin Timberlake who’s scored five chart-toppers during this span.
With “Rude Boy” knocking Cruz’s “Break Your Heart” (1-3) out of the top slot, the Island Def Jam Music Group (IDJMG) label posts back-to-back Hot 100 No. 1s for the first time since “Gold Digger” by Kanye West featuring Jamie Foxx replaced Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together” at the head of the chart dated Sept. 17, 2005. “Heart” continues to top the Digital Songs chart, moving 202,000 downloads, according to Nielsen SoundScan (down 26%).

I haven’t been here in soooo long but I just heard Rude Boy went number 1. So happy I was wrong about this single (even though it is not my favorite) and even happier for Rihanna. Hopefully this will get her label to change their minds about rush releasing another album ( if that is true). Maybe they should release Stupid in Love next…I put Rude Boy and Stupid in Love on the same level, so maybe that will do really well like Rude Boy. If I had my choice Photographs or Firebomb would be next, but obviously what do I know lol b/c I though Rude Boy was a bad choice. Anyway, CONGRATULATIONS RiRi :-)

Congrats RiRi. Not only have you made history as a female artist but have done it in a span of only 5 years, basically half a decade. You have the greatest fans, which i can attest to by being in here and observing how much they care about you.
Now, for the business at hand. RiRi is on top, but, to use a sports analogy, she needs to go in for the kill. This can be attained by releasing “Photographs”. It’s far different than “RB”, it gets back to the main objective of Rated R, which is personal. The song is beautiful, and most importantly it can be marketed as a BEP’s song. The BEP’s are on tour, they’re a megagroup, their tour coincides with Rihanna’s in the U.K., so from a business standpoint the timing couldn’t be better for “Photographs”.

I diesagree hugely with rockstar or firebomb being singles at this point (although i love those songs).
I think that now that rihanna had kinda moved out of the dark zone and gotten a #1 they should follow up with Te Amo or Photographs…they fit the mood right now best.
I just realize Te Amo could be a dance track and the video can have dance moves….so im all for that

She is performing “HARD” on the KCA’s, that’s what i was told by a tech friend of mine working on the production. Although i feel releasing “Photographs” next is in the best interest of Rihanna at this time and performing that song on the KCA would confirm that, i doubt Rihanna would sing “Photographs”, a more deeply personal song, on a show with screaming Justin Beiber fans who just won’t “get it”. “Hard” is the best choice for this show…..the kids will get into it, it’s off her new album, she can give the little boys, along with Justin, a woman to fantasize about, and the teenage girls will want to grow up and be Rihanna. Mission accomplished.
She will probably be slimed, however, i’d rather her surprise be a “Rude Boy” duet with Justin…..poor little boy wouldn’t be able to walk for a week :rotfl:

Firebomb like how it was with Breaking Dishes shouldnt be released. I feel like they are a gift to us fans/stans and would kill that special connection that all us share about those songs
Rockstar 101 i would really like to see be released as guys and girls will like it but also its slash lol but they cant release it straight after Rude Boy that would really damage its charts (like umbrella with Shutup and drive)

You have 2 of the biggest music people in the world who are relevant NOW (with “now” being the key word). Hey, i love Slash, but most people wouldn’t have known he was in the song if you didn’t tell them. In fact, his guitar work in the song is very understated IMO. On the other hand, you have Rihanna singing “Photographs”, which has Will.i.am and the BEP’s signature all over it.
Slash’s fanbase won’t embrace Rihanna, sorry, but musically speaking…..many people are like me…..love Rihanna and the BEP’s. In fact, i see a Rihanna/Fergie collaberation at some point, like a “Glamorous” pt 2.

Rockstar should be released next. It is in no way a dark, depressing song. It is a club banger. I think the next single will be released around the start of summer and the last thing ppl want to do doing the summer is sing breakup songs. They want something to get them hype, on the dance floor and RS will do that.
And, in reality, it doesn’t matter what we want. Rudeboy was released because it was the most downloaded song. Nobody expected RB to be released b/c Ri said Photographs was her favorite. Remember how surprised we were when they announced RB as the next single. So, don’t be so sure about anything. Defjam will think long and hard about the next single b/c they want to follow RB momentum.
I will be happy with rockstar or photograph’s(even though I feel this is a song for fall) being released b/c they have HIT written all over them.
But, please, SLASH is the BIZness. He is a fucking legend. The BEP’s have a looooooooooong way to go to even come close to SLASH.

We DID IT U GUYS! I know I requested the hell out of Rude Boy and so did all of you. We really are the best fans…Even with all the hate people said about Rihanna we still stood our ground and stuck up for our girl.
