Little Miss Sunshine is coming back. After a brief trip to the dark side, Rihanna is about to brighten up the airwaves once again with a new album. Sean “The Pen” Garrett spills the details exclusively to Rap-Up.com.
With her current single “Rude Boy” climbing the charts, the Rihanna reign shows no sign of letting up. The pop princess is capitalizing off the momentum with the feel-good follow-up to November’s Rated R.
According to Garrett, the project is already underway. “I got a record on Rihanna’s new album,” reveals the hitmaker. “She’s got some surprises.”
After a tumultuous 2009, the singer is back in a good place with her fifth studio album. “The record I gave her was very, very positive, very big. It’s a fucking smash,” adds Garrett. “I gave her a humongous radio record. It’s just so infectious. It’s about getting past any drama and just being happy to be alive. It’s an encouraging record. It feels great and it’s got great tempo.”
Like some fans, he was surprised to hear the dark theme surrounding RiRi’s latest effort. “Whenever I think of Rihanna, it makes me happy. To be honest, I wasn’t really that excited about hearing her in a dark zone. I love Rihanna for being that girl… She’s like the lil’ fantasy chick—nice brown skin, beautiful woman with a Caribbean swagger that’s ridiculous.”
The man who’s penned hits for Beyoncé and Usher is confident his contribution will keep Rihanna at the top of the charts. “I made sure that it was bulletproof. It should be a single unless something crazy happens. It’s hot as fuck. I think it’s a record that’s gonna stay on the radio for a long time.”

So they are really moving forward that quickly with a follow up to Rated R? I understand the return to a happier vibe, but why so soon? I want “Fire Bomb” to be a single! I want “Photographs” to be a single and “Rock Star 101″ too.
And I hope by “happier” they don’t mean a mindless music just like Ke$ha. Rihanna did something unique and bold with “Rated R” and I’ll hate Def Jam if they don’t give it its proper time to shine.
I do look forward to new music from Rihanna but let’s not rush it. With all the media attention surrounding the drama in her life and then promo for “Rated R,” the girl hasn’t really even had a proper break.

They may be working on the new album but that doesn’t mean it’s going to released any time soon, like this summer. Rih has been releasing a new album every year prior to the incident, so I won’t be surprised to see a new album late this year. I don’t believe the summer album rumors at all…I can’t wait to hear this song.

Nobody can deny that Rated R is a great album, its an album you can listen to today or 5 yrs from now and still feel so many different emotions each time you listen to it….
But Rihanna’s in a different, much happier place now, so just maybe she doesnt want to sing those songs anymore, imagine her singing about only being left with photographs after a break up, when shes making better photographs with a new man. :kissblow:
Rihanna’s moved on now, so maybe she wants to close that chapter in her life, but whatever happens we know she’ll keep giving us great music. :music:

I really hope that this is all for a Rated R ‘monster’ kind of thing… Coz this album is too good to just end it up when its at its best momen… I think they will go with the gaga-type format. They will mantain the album but add a lot of new songs just to not call it a re-release.

Well, what was that thing that Natalie and Rodrigo kept secretly for us? I BET that it something about new album. Rodrigo said on forums that he thinks she is dropping new album this summer. I love that idea! Makes perfect sense:
-Rihanna herself said she is making a fun album
-Justin Timberlake already made over 10 songs for her album (yet to be chosen)
-Ke$ha said she has a song with her
-David Guetta is working with her
-Now Sean Garrett made a song for her, that sounds like a monster, the second Umbrella
-She didn’t release tour date for summer. Which means she could do a tour with new album, just after summer, promoting RatedR+NewAlbum.

….…if i had to guess,i think she will only release it next year(maybe in the end of it)because it wouldn’t make sense at all to release a new album while u r still doing the tour of the previous one!!….just because she is recording some songs for a new album it doesn’t mean that it’s going to be released this year,artist do this all the time,they keep recording songs and stocking it for future projects….
…but whatever she decides to bring to the table ,i’ll be happy with it… ;-)

Maybe she should release Fire Bomb (everyone’s favourite) as the final single around Mid-April and then the new album in the summer around mid-June/early July :)
God bless to the Rated R era, it was great but when a chapter closes, another one opens, i am SOOOOO EXCITED for the new album, every album she makes is amazing and i hope to hear more ‘Umbrella’ ‘Breakin Dishes’ records in the future :) !

Like I said b4 Rih is a hard and fast worker. MOTS came out in Aug 05, AGLM in Apr 06, GGGB in Jun 07 and RR in Nov ’09 so I wouldn’t be suprised if her new album came out this year!

Hey guys!!! I don’t think she’s gonna release an album this year! I mean she’s still promoting the album and going on tour in April! What time is she gonna have to record a new album? I’m tired of all these producers trying to attach their name to Rihanna right quick! She’s saying something else,they are saying something else!!! DEF JAM needs to let them know that they should shut their big mouths up!!! I think she’s gonna release the album next summer!!! The Rated R era is just beginning so fear not people!!! I’m sure she will wait a while before releasing the album. No one wants the Rated R era to be over so shortly. Shes going on tour in April so theres no way she could release it in the next few months. I think she should at least release 2 more singles before another album. Im sure she’ll wait dont worry!!

I respect what rihanna did with this album and I can understand why it was so dark.
But….I am so happy her and her team (and fans) and finally comin to the reality that the rated R era just isnt catching on. I love rihanna so i support her regardless but I hated this era. I was so threw off by this album, not what I waited for or expected at all. I need some dance music, like the music lady gaga makes from rihanna.

Hmmm…..let’s hope this new album drops late in the year. I would be shocked if it’s any earlier. Rihanna has a good chance at getting multiple Grammy nominations. The Grammy voters on a whole love what Rihanna did on Rated R as well as the music critics. Rated R obviously qualifies for the next Grammys as far as timeline. Her new album, if it drops sooner rather than later, may hurt her chances of being nominated for Rated R. I know how academy voters vote, whether it’s movies or music, they have a short attention span. I don’t like this idea. I understand some people feeling she needs to get back to club music etc, but what is the one thing her haters would hate the most? yep, Grammy nominations/Grammy wins. I just wish her people would recognize the fact that Rated R needs to be handled delicately and keep the focus on Rated R up till the time comes for academy members to vote. I’m not saying she shouldn’t “work” on a new album, just don’t release it to at least the fall.
I ask one question to all you fans……which is more important? Getting out some new uptempo, feel good dance music, or to be recognized by your peers for the work you did on Rated R by being nominated and maybe even win best album? Wouldn’t this make all her haters STFU? Rihanna, i beg you not to release new music till after Labor Day, please, pretty please. :-*
