Rihanna’s “Rated R” is said to sell less than 200.000 units in its first week in the United States. This is not what the fans expected, but don’t forget that “Good Girl Gone Bad,” her previous album, has sold 2.5 million units in the US and more than 7.5 million worldwide, and it sold 165.000 units in its first week in the US.

If you haven’t bought “Rated R” yet, buy it NOW!

Billboard prediction:
#1 Susan Boyle – I Dreamed a Dream – 700k
#2 Adam Lambert – For Your Entertainment – 225k
#3 Lady GaGa – The Fame Monster – 200k
#4 Rihanna – Rated R – less than 200k

In other news, “Hard” is Top 10 on iTunes (US)!

    2. Well maybe the sales start off slow… hopefully it'll pick up after a while. Just keep buying! It'll get higher… the others just got a head start lol. All the best to Rih.

By the way, how many units did Jay-Z sell in the first week? For his last album (Blue Print 3)?

    11. Please take this post down! Who the hell runs this site anyway? U dont put this kind of news on a FAN site you dumb asses! People who are on the fence about buying the ablum look at post like this and then opt to pass on buying because they think its not worth it. This is just simple PR 101. Get with it!

I already knew this anyway, she does not have a top 10 single on the charts right now and the ablum is clearly darker and more "grown up" then what some of her "so called fans" were hoping for. all in all its an excellent peice of work, better then her last by far! Sells have nothing to do with how good a record is, Mariah's "Memoirs" was her best offering since Butterfly but sold less then 200k in first week.

      Comment by 1914inches — November 25, 2009 @ 12:53 am

    12. Hmmm….that's a little disappointing but hey I love, love, love this album, my favorite so far and I'm so proud of Miss Fenty!! I think it will pick up before the Christmas holiday.

Susan Boyle is a novelty act so is Adam Lambert. GaGa has her legion of gay supporters. Rih has a more urban sound and that doesn't draw the hardcore "pop" fans that ate up her other recordings. I don't think we fans should worry.

      Comment by zazzytink — November 25, 2009 @ 12:53 am

    13. So because this report isn't fully pro-Rihanna and putting RR at #1, it shouldn't be posted? Well, everything can't be 100% pro-Rihanna, even if it is a fansite. Thanks for posting the estimates. I am sure by late Friday-middle Saturday, those figures will change!

QUIT WORRYING ABOUT THE SALES EVERYONE! I swear some of you all are stressing ME out with the numbers game. Has 'proving the haters wrong' become bigger than focusing on Rihanna? She made a album SHE loves, she got to get HER word out WITHOUT someone holding her down and all you all can focus on is whether or not it sells? Do you really want the album to be supported by those who don't care for her but brought it because it's the 'trend of the day' or for Rihanna to get long-lasting fans who will support her music and creativity?

RIHANNA IS OUTSELLING LADY GAGA AND ADAM LAMBERT WORLDWIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RIHANNA IS #2 ON UK ITUNES TOP 10 ALBUMS, RIGHT BEHIND SUSAN BOYLE WHO IS PREDICTED TO SELL 400K IN THE UK!!!!

      Comment by NICKY — November 25, 2009 @ 1:01 am

    15. @MMM nobody said rihanna disappointed or any shit like that but I think people need to look at her past albums and see that she hasnt done that much in a first week, and I think thats what billboard is saying hell they are hardly ever wrong so what… i think some of you people care to much I dont think she gives a damn where she is on the charts as long as we her fans get her music and we love it i think thats what she cares

besides its not like thats where the mony is lol its all about the Tour and I pretty sure its gonna happy soon. watch as soon as she starts touring i'm pretty the album is gonna be like GGGB all over again. dude i mean dont beat your self up or anybosy else they did say it was just a predictions if u wanna keep track of it next week on early tuesday or late monday here is the website that counts the album total or estimated total… its a real site and legit only site that has the #'s

      Comment by bubblywubbly — November 25, 2009 @ 1:20 am

    17. EXACTLY, BUBBLYWUBBLY! Like I said, she made the album that SHE wanted to make and for me, that's all I'll ever need! So what if it's not performing how someone wants it to; they have UNREALISTIC GOALS of it from the start anyway!

NICKY, once again EXACTLY! For her to NOT have been in the game for 8+ months while I have (and others) had to SUFFER through Lady Gaga and Susan Boyle OVEREXPOSURE and all the 'Adam is Gay, that's why he didn't win' theories; it's AMAZING that she is OUTSELLING THEM INTERNATIONALLY!

      Comment by Sherrick — November 25, 2009 @ 1:26 am

    18. I'm just tired of people putting her down. She's a great artist and doesn't deserve to

be treated like this. These people are trying to end her career. Like ciara, they want

to put her in the corner. But I told you I believe that article is BULLSHIT and I stand

by that!!!!! Billboard is always wrong in its projections, but I don't care about first

week sales so let them talk shit.

@Nicky I'm glad you posted those numbers. Even though I know them, its good to

see them. I will continue to look at the bright side.

      Comment by maison martin margie — November 25, 2009 @ 1:33 am

    20. I am glad I have gotten my source of satisfaction from the great reviews, the great music and the control she's had over her career during this era. As I have been saying, usually artists have huge critical acclaim–bold and artistic achievements–or huge commercial success. The masterstroke, the real blockbuster CDs have BOTH, but not many do. If you are cutting edge and daring, you usually lose some in commercial success. The work just aint as "accesible" to the masses. ANd rihanna's image at this point is hard to take for some folks. they wanted her to be little miss sunshine and do fun dance music. She followed her heart instead.

whatever her sales are Rihanna should keep her head up and be proud of Rated R. She could have easily made a CD that played on sympathy or she could have ignored the difficulties in her life altogether. But she chose to examine the pain and I will always have much love for her for this!!!

Adam's "album" is also .99 cents, then and Jay Z's is 2 bucks if we go by that logic. Why do all these people want to see her fail. It is really sad. I agree with what your actuall saying. Russian Roulette should not have been the first single, I think it pulled her down because there are other great songs on the album. In my opinion G4L would have hit nicely, Cold Case Love would have been a good anthem to women regarding DV (the video could have been awesome), Even Rock star would have hit hard, but RR doesnt do it for me. Even Photographs would have been nice.

    42. Debut Album Will Top 600k, Adam Lambert, Gaga, Rihanna, Shakira Also Bow

      November 25, 2009

Not since Mrs. Miller warbled “A Lover’s Concerto” on the Ed Sullivan Show have we had as unlikely a pop heroine as Susan Boyle.

And if that dates us, go tell it on Topio Gigio the little Italian mouse.

A story which began with Simon Cowell’s arched eyebrows on Britain’s Got Talent, where she made her unlikely debut singing “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables climaxes in a chart-topping debut for the album of the same name in the middle of the busiest retail season of the year. The album set a record in the U.K. with more than 130k sales on its first day in stores. It is on track to beat the highest first-week sales of 375,872 for a debut album set by Leona Lewis two years ago.

That’s right, folks, the team of Barnett and Boyle, as in Columbia’s fearless leader Steve, will be #1 next week with a total that right now appears more than 600k and, dare we say it, could go even higher.

That’s based on one-day sales reports from delirious retailers high on Boyle’s version of “Daydream Believer.”

The controversial gender-bending Idol runner-up Adam Lambert proves to be the real people’s choice—at least those who prefer their music a cross between Freddie Mercury and Anthony Newley—with a first-week total in the 210-230k range for his 19/RCA/RMG bow, For Your Entertainment, unfortunately, not named after the retail chain.

Interscope provocateur for all seasons Lady Gaga’s Fame Monster EP, a seven-song addition to the deluxe edition available on its own, will do 180-200k, while the new version (now merged on the charts with the original album) should do another 130-150k.

Def Jam/IDJ’s Rihanna, whose new album Rated R has been getting stellar reviews in the L.A. and N.Y. Times and Rolling Stone, is on line for 180-200k.

Yet another global diva, Epic’s Shakira, will bow with 80-90k of her new She Wolf album.

A couple of Cash Money/Universal Republic acts in Jay Sean and Birdman are the other new releases, both trending in the 30-35k range.

The market was up 13% vs. last week, down 16% vs. same week last year and down 13% year to date.

Now it’s time to suck down some tryptophan, curl up on the couch in a fetal position and watch some football.

    65. I am a huge Rhianna fen but I am not happy with the 1st week sales predictions !!! I mean she is been all over TV even two weeks before the album come out. I think it has to do with Russian Rollete being the 1st single if she released Hard as the 1st single it would have been #1 on the charts the 1st week its alredy in the top 10 on I tunes it was just a bad choice for 1st single and now its costing her sales she is had the most promotion from all the artist from this week
