We don’t know why, but Rihanna did not attend the 2009 Video Music Awards. She and Stevie Boi confirmed that she would be there, but there was not sign of her. Maybe RiRi just changed her mind. This was the first time Rihanna was not there since the beggining of her career, in 2005.
However, “Live Your Lifeâ€, by T.I. feat. Rihanna, won the award of “Best Male Video†– congratulations to T.I., Rihanna and the fans who voted!
Don’t forget that Jay-Z, Rihanna and Kanye West will perform “Run This Town” at the Jay Leno Show tomorrow in Los Angeles!

..the first one was in 2007 after founding out that Britney was gonna do the opening performance instead of him…and now he did what he did on this year's VMAs….

I think she was going to go but somehow something was telling her not to so she didn,t. I think rihanna is a very smart person for choosing not to attend even though her fans was disappointed. You have to go with your gut instinct

Ohhhh myyyyy Goddddd – Kanye West is the best – he reacts on impulse it seems – he just could not sit there and let what he saw happened without saying anything – Kanye is something else – can't wrong the man for his bold expression – I really thought it was part of the show or something – it took me a while before I realized what the hell was happening…….. ……now the internet and Twitter has gone absolutely crazy already……….I suppose he will be explaining or have something to say on Jay Leno's show tomorrow – or maybe he will have absolutely nothing to say………….then Beyonce did the damage control brilliantly and classy I must say – but the point is Kanye had already expressed his views and could give a rats ass what came next or who has what to say – dude is something else.
It was all in the name of "Free expression" .

@ dldcu…yeah it could be that ,or she never planned to go or it was canceled…..because it's kinda weird though cuz..yes,all those ppl saying that she was really going to attend to it could be just rumours, but didn't she said herself to Tamara and Janise that she was going to attend to the awards?…so what happened?..although it was never official that she would attend to it…

I didn't think Rihanna was going to attend the VMAs – I was not disappointed at all – she was not nominated for anything – what would be the point of showing up on a red carpet just to say what – just an appearance – won't make any sense – she was absolutely right for not attending. Maybe next year if her album comes out and makes a pretty huge impact then yes – would be appropriate then………..Rihanna does her red carpet daily throughout NYC and followed by the paps with her hot fashion appearances – and we see her beautiful pics here on RD every day.

Exactly, she wasn't nominated for any award, but I really wanted to see her on stage again, however the show was fine, specially GaGa, pink and Beyoncé, well, lets hope Riri perform amazing (as usual) tomorrow… Greatings from Mexico!!…. I'm sorry about my bad english. RD Rocks!!;D

I didn't think she would attend this would her first star studded televised event! Since her ordeal with Mr Brown!
Jay Z concert was a concert to fans where she performed!
I'm sure sitting in the crowd whispers would be thrown around!

@ Jayne and Daniel – you are wrong since she was nominated! First of all for "Best Legs" and secondly for "Live Your Life" with T.I (which actually won!) …. and it's obvious T.I couldn't get the award himself so she was the best person to represent him on stage in case they would win (which they did)…. It's wrong she didn't appear…. I think this was a sudden change of plans to not show up, who knows, maybe they got scared Chris B will appear and they are not ready yet to keep her safe with a 10m ruler. She did appear at the afterparty which means she was hoping to be a part of VMA… why to appear at the afterparty for an event you don't show cause there was nothing to do? It's like the last Jay-Z myspace concert – she was seen and soundcheck and later she didn't perform. I am just hoping Kanye didn't mess up the Jay Leno appearance and we will see it soon.
